SHREE SHANTADURGA KUNKALIKARIN: THE GODDESS OF DREAMS
The Goddess Shree Shantadurga Kunkalikarin is venerated at Fatorpa in the form of a vigilant ( Jagrut ) Shakti Pith in Goa . Legendary sources indicate She is a form of the Hindu Goddess Durga or Mahamaya and is linked to Kali, Parvati and the Mantrikas. The Goddess Durga is a warrior Goddess who is not linked or subordinate to any other male God.
According the Puranas, the Goddess Durga combats the demons ( Rakshashas ) who threaten the stability of Mother Earth ( Prithvi ). She is associated with blood, sacrifice and fertility…She is violet, dangerous and potent but at the same time she is capable of intervening on behalf of her devotees. In Goa, the Goddess assumed a milder form of Shantadurga or a more peaceful form of Goddess Durga.
THE STATUE OF THE GODDESS
The idol of the deity Shree Shantadurga Kunkalikarin bears a resemblance with Maheshasur Mardini. The image of the presiding deity is placed in the garbhagraha . It is a Chaturbhuj Murthi as it is made up of five metals. The Goddess is depicted with as DURGA … holding a sword, trishul, sudarshan chakra and an arrow. There is buffalo under her feet and the lion is her carrier.
